UPDATED: After Investigation, Roseville High Activities Director Accepts Teaching Post

Scott Allen stepped down from his position as Roseville High activities director, the district announced.

Updated, 4:30 p.m., July 11: After Roseville Area Schools completed its investigation into complaints made against Roseville High activities director Scott Allen, the district chose not to take any disciplinary action, said Karen Schaub, the district's spokeswoman.

Schaub said the Minnesota Data Practices act prevented her from disclosing any additional information, including whether Allen received pay during the mandatory leave he took throughout the investigation.

"We’re trying to be as honest and open as we can, but we really do have a lot of data practices issues that we have to be careful about," she said, adding in a follow-up email that "we take our responsibility to investigate complaints very seriously—please be assured that we did so in this case."

Schaub confirmed that there have been "issues going on for awhile in regards to [Allen's] health."

Scott Allen has stepped down from his post as Roseville Area High School activities director and accepted an assignment as a full-time teacher at Roseville Middle School, the school district announced today.

Allen has been on leave since early May, while the school district conducted an investigation into complaints lodged against him. The complaints were believed to be related to the allegations of bullying that caused Roseville High boys head hockey coach Jeff Pauletti to resign on May 8.

But the district is saying that Allen’s demotion is “a voluntary transfer due to the stress and time commitments of his current assignment.”

“I have enjoyed my time as an administrator in District 623 for the past ten
years,” Allen wrote in a June 27 letter requesting the change of assignment. “I believed it would be best for my health to make a change.”

The change in position will go into effect on August 27.

The school district is currently accepting applications for Allen’s job of District 623 activities director and associate principal.

Probably not going to find someone to apply for this job after all the parents put him through...

Mr. Allen was principal at Little Canada School. He was wonderful! He was great at running the school and he was so good with the kids. It is a shame that his reputation is being dragged through the mud. I hope his new position gives him some relief from the stress and that it is easier on his health.

As the subject of the investigation, Scott Allen by law has the authority to order the school district to make the investigation public. This would answer everyone's questions. Until I read the report, I think it is improper to praise the man. At best I can only stay neutral.

Jerry has an odd concept of time concerning his comments about Felicia Busch. 2010 is farther in the past than "last week." The statute appears to have something to do with cable TV.

Can we please get a response from the school board on the investigative results of former RAHS Activities Director, Scott Allen's role in the Jeff Pauletti bullying case! I think every parent in this school district deserves an explanation on why he took a leave of absents and ultimately was forced from his position. And now he'll be teaching at the HS where everything took place. As actor, Jack Nicholson quoted in the movie, A Few Good Men, "you (RAS) can't handle the truth"!!!

Hey Tony, read the article! It says he will be teaching at the middle school. Could you clarify what a "leave of absents" is for me?

John, a parent who felt Mr Allen was a fine principal at their child's school has EVERY right to praise him, that has ZERO to do with this.....

S Johnson, why are you hiding? Who are you? And what is your basis in saying that? From experience or from what an upset parent said? Be careful who you listen too...a small few are tearing the community apart because their child did not make a team....

Could someone help me understand what the data practices law actually says. The mantra from School Board officials is that the data practice law prevents them from discussing details. Each time I see a statement like that I get more suspicious that its all a smokescreen...can't someone give some details please!? How about how much time and money has been spent on the investigation at least? Doesn't the data practices law provide for more access to information? Seems like the school district is using the term as an excuse to withold information...

Mark, if someone's comment has ZERO to do with this, it means that my statement did not apply also. My comments apply directly to this issue. The guy may be a weekly church attendee and a stellar grandparent. I am not in a place to render an opinion on that.

The data practices laws make most employee-employer documentation private. With local government employees (school districts, cities, counties, etc) only when there is wrongdoing, and only when someone is disciplined, is the information made public.

How schools scam the system is they either don't discipline the employe because typically the boss also looks like a fool, or the employee abruptly leaves their position or quits so discipline can't occur. They are all in bed together on this.

The exception to this rule is State government employees in senior leadership positions. Why the exception? Because your school boards and city councils continue to lobby the legislature to keep it this way. They are embarrassed to air dirty laundry. Shows how inept some superintendents and city managers are.

But the subject of the investigation, i.e. the employee, always has the right to waive this protection. So Mr. Allen can tell the district to air it all if he wants. Typically when an employee does not want this done, there is a reason. There is something embarrassing that was found that they don't want public.

It always disappoints me when the media doesn't directly ask for disclosure.

What is with people posting comments without using their name? What are you hiding? Talk about a "smokescreen".....

Mark, thanks for cleaning up my errors in my article!
All I'm asking for from the school district is what happened between the activities director, coach and parents to cause this much of a ruckus! This information should not be hiding behind the data privacy act, but made public.
