Patch websites in Minnesota will go dark for a moment Friday morning to honor the memory of those killed one week ago at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.

The brief Patch blackout is set for 8:30 a.m. CST on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012.

Gov. Mark Dayton has called for a moment of silence in Minnesota one hour later, at 9:30 a.m. CST. In his statement (click on PDF thumbnail), Dayton also asked places of worship and government buildings that have bells to ring them 26 times "in honor of each life that was taken far too soon at Sandy Hook Elementary School."

Twenty children and six adults died in the mass shooting. Newtown Patch's news hub has extensive coverage of the events of Dec. 14 and since, including the names of those who died that day.

Dave, I think our local Patch does a great job of getting out into the community and supporting local schools and businesses. Chris has been extremely responsive whenever asked to report on or promote a story about which he had not previously known. This site is a community effort and needs the support of local residents to reach its full potential.

Thanks, Courtney. I certainly appreciate what you do at the site, from posting sports events in the calendar to sending photos and tips. I think there was an earlier comment you're responding to that one of the Patch editors must have deleted for violation of our Terms of Use. http://fridley.patch.com/terms

My local Patch is the Southwest Minneapolis patch, and that is the patch I was referring to.
So complaining about Patch quality violated the TOS?
Sorry is I offended you Chris.

They are apparently quite touchy about even mild criticism, Dave. Perhaps they simply can't handle the truth.

Feel free to criticize. But recognize there's a time and place. This article wasn't it.

Nobody is criticizing Sandy Hook or anything related to that tragedy, just the poor judgement that Patch showed with a meaningless gesture that was clearly nothing more than a self-aggrandizing publicity stunt. There was nothing about the previous comments that violated the terms of use and the censorship is offensive in light of the double standard that exists when commenting on various other topics compared to Patch itself. Ask yourself whether those comments would have been deleted if spoken about Dayton, Bachmann or Obama rather than Patch?

Honestly, the gesture and your reporting of it reminds me of the movie star or professional athlete who has never done a good deed or helped other people unless there were cameras rolling.
