Bridging Inc., a Twin Cities-based nonprofit assisting local households emerging from homelessness and poverty, on Wednesday is celebrating the fifth anniversary of its Roseville location. 

The organization will hold a celebration and open house from                  7:30 to 9 a.m. Wedesday (Oct. 12) with visits from local dignitaries and politicians.

Since opening its Roseville office in 2006 at 1633 Terrace Drive, Bridging has served 10,644 households in need and distributed 216,532 furniture and household good items, according to Heidi Schwitzer, the group's communications and events manager.

Bridging’s Roseville location is also hosting a week-long essential product drive to receive 500 can openers, 500 bath towels, and 500 pillows for distribution to local households transitioning out of homelessness and poverty, Schwitzer said.
 
Every year, Bridging serves nearly 5,000 households (more than 13,000 individuals) from the Twin Cities at its Bloomington and Roseville locations. Since its origin in 1987, Bridging has served about 57,000 households, according to the nonprofit.

Scwitzer said Bridging’s mission is to provide families and individuals transitioning out of homelessness and poverty with a one-time gift of quality furniture and household goods to stabilize and improve lives while effectively using community resources. By accepting quality, gently used furniture and household good donations, Bridging also supports the area by keeping nearly 7 million pounds of items out of landfills annually, she noted.
