Destination XL Coming to Roseville

Retailer for large, tall men going into Rosedale Commons.

Destination XL, a growing national retailer of big and tall men's apparel, is scheduled to land this summer in Roseville.

The men's merchant, a part of Massachusetts-based Casual Male Retail Group Inc., expcts to open its Roseville store in August at Rosedale Commons, a retail center just north of Rosedale Center.

The imminent arrival of Destination XL is among a number of new players  appearing at Rosedale Commons, which has gotten a facelift in the last year. Among its new tenants are Bed Bath & Beyond, Old Navy and The Vitamin Shoppe.

In its latest earnings report, Casual Male Retail Group said it opened six new Destination XL stores during the first quarter ended April 28, giving it a total of 22 stores. The company said it plans to open 35 new stores in fiscal 2012, giving it about 50 DXL stores.

The company said its goal is "to have at least one store located in most major metropolitan cities across the United States."

David Brennan, a Twin Cities retail academic, said the expansion of Destination XL comes at a time of some growth in the men's apparel segment.

"Men are dressing up more," said Brennan, co-director of the Institute for Retailing Excellence at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. "It's not a large demographic, but it (men's apparel) is growing."
