Free Fishing Excursion Program Launching in North Suburbs

The Let's Go Fishing chapter will serve senior citizens, youth and veterans in Roseville and neighboring communities. The inaugural event is Wednesday, Sept. 19

The North Suburban Area Let's Go Fishing board of directors will hold its first excursion Wednesday (Sept. 19) on Lake Johanna in Arden Hills, according to chapter president Julie Overbye Ledy.

“We are pleased to bring this outstanding program to our community," Overbye Ledy said in a statement. "We are hoping to serve over 1,200 seniors, youths and veterans in the North Suburban Area next year."

Overbye Ledy said Let’s Go Fishing is a statewide nonprofit program aimed at enriching the lives of seniors, youth and veterans through free fishing and boating excursions.

The North Suburban chapter's first Let's Go Fishing guests will be a group from Golden Living Center, Overbye Ledy said. The fishing event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Tony Schmidt Regional Park Boat Landing in Arden Hills.  The public is welcome to attend.

The North Suburban Area chapter will serve the northern St. Paul-area suburbs with free fishing excursions on Mondays through Thursdays, May 15 through Sept. 30 starting on Lake Johanna and ending on Lake Owasso., Overbye Ledy said.

The Let’s Go Fishing program was started in 2002 and currently has 30 chapters throughout Minnesota. The program has served more than 20,000 people in 2012, according to Overbye Ledy.
