McGuire Gains DFL Endorsement For Ramsey County Board

Former state senator files for Ramsey County Board District Two seat.

Former state senator Mary Jo McGuire has won the DFL endorsement in her race for Ramsey County Board of Commissioner District Two seat, according to her Volunteer campaign committee.

McGuire's DFL backing came one day before her filing Tuesday for the County Board seat. The District Two seat is currently held by Jan Parker, who announced earlier this year that she would be retiring of the end of her current term.

Ramsey County District Two includes the cities of Roseville, New Brighton, Little Canada, Lauderdale, the Ramsey county precinct in St. Anthony Village and Mounds View Precinct Four.

“I am honored and humbled to receive the DFL endorsement for County Commissioner," McGuire said in a statement. "I look forward to moving forward in the election process and am excited to spend the next few months meeting with the people of this district to discuss how we can work together to support strong families, create safe communities, and promote a healthy environment."

McGuire is a lifelong resident of Ramsey County and represented the communities of Roseville, Lauderdale, Falcon Heights, and St. Anthony Village, and the Roseville and St.Anthony /New Brighton school districts in the Minnesota Legislature for more than 15 years.

This spring, McGuire was thrust into the same Senate district as Roseville Sen. John Marty due to legislative redistricting. In a District 66 DFL endorsing convention, McGuire lost out to Marty and she pledged not to run in a primary to challenge him.

McGuire attended high school at Alexander Ramsey Senior High School in Roseville (now Roseville Area High School), completed her undergraduate degree at The College of St. Catherine in St. Paul and received her law degree from Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul.
