Construction of Roseville's new $9.2 million fire station is continuing to move forward with the project on target for a grand opening next October.

"We are completely out of the ground with all foundations," city Fire Chief Tim O'Neill told Roseville Patch. "Exterior block walls are about 50 percent complete and on schedule for full enclosure for end of December."

"Once we have full enclosure, we begin all interior walls and functions.," O'Neill continued. " We are still weather dependant for schedules, but are still planning to move in September and full grand opening in October."

The new fire station, which city officials ground broke for in September, will be 32,000 to 36,000 square feet in size. Some of its features will include geothermal ground-source heating, natural lighting, LED lighting, high R-value walls and windows and a white membrane roof that reflects solar light and heat to minimize the heat island effect.

The new building will be constructed on the site of the old station, which dates to 1958 and was shuttered in October 2011 after it was claimed by mold.
