The Roseville Police Department honored more than 20 officers for meritorious service _ and one K-unit, Major.

The Roseville Police Department's Medal of Honor was given on Wednesday to K-9 Major, the dog who was left paralyzed in his hind legs after getting stabbed several times while searching for suspects in an attempted burglary in Maplewood last November.  Major was retired from the Roseville PD shortly afterward.

Major's handler, officer John Jorgensen received an award of merit as well as the Eric Christensen Leadership award. That honor is bestowed on an individual who distinguishes himself through long-term contributions to the department, the city said in a statement.
