Roseville Council to See Exterior Drawings Tonight for New Fire Station
Utility rate hearing, 2012 budget and liquor license renewals also on City Council agenda.
Representatives of CNH Architects are expected tonight (Monday) to present to the Roseville City Council preliminary exterior images of the new planned $8 million city fire station.
In a report to the Council, CNH officials said that the preliminary exterior "images at this point are representative of the design
concept and the general use of material proposed, but the images are representative in nature only.
"Specific materials and detailing elements will be studied and presented in future City Council presentations. However, the design does anticipate the use of two colors of brick, a lighter field color with a darker pilaster color as is similar to City Hall.
"There is also an intention to include limestone and cast stone elements within the base and trim of the exterior also a material appearing as an accent within the City Campus. The main buildings are likewise flat roofed with vertical accent elements at the entrance and tower locations."
Also on the Council agenda is a proposal to raise utility rates for 2012, adopt a 2012 budget and taz levy and take action on a series of liquor license renewals. For a complete list of the Council agenda, click here.

It's time to vote out all the big spenders, no wonder our taxes keep going up. The elected cowards should put the bonding up for a vote instead of hiding behind the Port Authority exclusion for a vote, they know it would never pass. These people need to learn the difference between want and need!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can understand the need for a new station. What I really do not get is the need for $19 million for park "maintenance". It would seem that the money will more likely go to develop new sports facilities for the out of town athletes who find Roseville so accommodating. Avoiding the voters in order to spend money that we don't have is wrong. Roseville's aging population will be driven from their homes at an accelerated rate due to fiscal irresponsiblity. Maintaining the parks is a good thing, but borrowing $19 million dollars is excessive. As stated elsewhere, there are things we need and then there are things we'd like to have - and we cannot always afford all the things we would like to have. Please remember to vote in the next election. The members who decided to alleviate your voting rights need to know that they were elected by you and can just as well be removed by you.

a new fire station is great, but we need a functional, energy-efficient building. we do not need a piece of art as the exterior was presented last night. we do not need pilasters and curved features. if they can be included without increasing the cost of the building, that's great, but if making the exterior of the building look "interesting" costs extra money, i say no. let's build this building for the least amount of money possible and put the rest of the $8 million into a fund for future repairs so that this building is not allowed to fall apart as the council and administration allowed the current fire buildings to fall apart from lack of maintenance. if the building can be built for $6 million and we can bank $2 million for the future, that would be wonderful!
when the city hall was expanded the city unnecessarily spent over $100,000 on the trellis in the front, which added nothing to the operation of the building. back then the architect was paid a percentage of what it cost to build the expansion so they had no incentive to design a low cost building. i hope this time around is different.
also, concerning the parks and rec $19 million - this is just the tip of the iceberg. much larger, future bond issues are part of the parks and rec master plan.
it would be nice if the council members who ran on a fiscal responsibility platform would start showing some spending restraint.
