The Roseville Area High School (RAHS) drama program will present final performances Thursday through Sunday of "Urinetown: The Musical," a playful journey through a land where water is scarce, and everyone is always singing about it.

The schedule is: 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Roseville Area High School Nielsen Performing Arts Center, 1240 County Road B-2 W., Roseville.  Tickets are $10 adults, $8 students, and $5 general admission.

Initial performances of the play were held this past weekend.

Twenty years of disastrous drought has led to draconian water restrictions in Urinetown. In order to regulate water consumption, Urinetown has outlawed the use of private toilets. Citizens must use public, pay-per-use toilets owned and operated by Urine Good Companyl.

Michael Sheeks, the production’s director, said the show has a message about water and resouerces.

“The idea about the availability of water, and the cost of water, is really what the show is about at its core. And within the cost of water, how do those who have control of water take advantage of those who don’t have power?  That’s the other universal theme.”

The Broadway production of Urinetown won three Tony Awards.

Junior Taylor Drake and senior Daniel Lindsay, along with freshman Maria Gisselquist, lead a cast featuring an equal number of students from each graduating class. Other featured roles are filled by Rachel Evans, Maggie Thury and Danny Adams-Meade.

The show includes family friendly language, but some mature themes (greed, corruption, murder, extortion, and, of course, peeing). It’s probably a PG-13.
