Suzanne Hinderscheid, of Roseville, will be one of two individuials who will be honored at a Celebration of Servant Leadership event from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Thrivent Financial corporate headquarters in Minneapolis.
The event, sponsored by GoodCities, will honor two unsung champions who reflect the spirit of servant leadership exemplified by Jesus Christ.
This year’s recipients are Suzanne Hinderscheid, leader of Weekend of Service in Northwest Ramsey County and Eric Iverson, Director of Abutment for YouthWorks and the Real Resource Foundation. Below is a short bio of Hinderscheid.
A native of Roseville, Hinderschedi sensed a calling on her life at age 20 and was soon on her way to Japan for three months with Life Ministries. She completed training and was on staff with Youth With A Mission (Y.W.A.M.) and served with them for a number of years in Japan.
A member of North Heights for almost 30 years, Suzanne has served in a many ways and in a number of countries. She was sent out as a missionary to Japan, Philippines, Romania and Africa and has helped lead a number of short-term mission trips.
Suzanne and her husband Mike helped lead a number of North Height’s outreaches including Kindness Outreach, and Saturday of Service (S.O.S.). While serving on the Love INC Board and as the Gap Ministries Coordinator, she sensed the Lord’s call to unite the churches in the area.
In 2011/2012 she directed and launched the first Weekend of Service (W.O.S). There were 12 churches that joined together and more than 1300 volunteers served on 97 different projects to bless others in the community. Suzanne has a passion to see the cities reached for Jesus Christ.
Suzanne has received her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Northwestern College.
Suzanne has run a number of marathons and enjoys playing soccer, hiking, biking, and loves the outdoors. Suzanne and her husband Mike have been married 14 years and they have three children – Hanna (10), Emily (8), and Sarah (6).
GoodCities and Thrivent Financial value the role that servant leaders play in the Twin Cities. To encourage this kind of work in the Twin Cities, every attendee at this evening's celebration event will receive a copy of The Good City: Transformed Lives Transforming Communities written by Dr. Glenn Barth, president of GoodCities.
“It is our hope that by honoring servant leaders in this way, we will begin to encourage more people to take this path in life,” Barth said in a press statement. He said the recognition event is meant to contribute toward building a fraternal force that works for the good of others and brings out the best in the residents and institutions of the Twin Cities.
