Strohmeier Supports Eco-Friendly Development

As one of seven people running for the Roseville City Council, Peter Strohmeier said he supports eco-friendly development for the community.

"When we look at zoning issues, we need to take a long-range view of what should be done," said Strohmeier, who is a member of the Roseville Planning Commission.  "I am runnng because of my dedication to public service but also attempt to be an effective voice for the residents and neighborhoods of Roseville."

Strohmeier, 29, was the sole Planning Commissioner this past winter to oppose a plat for a proposed Wal-Mart store in Roseville's Twin Lakes neighborhood. He has contended the development proposal doesn't fit with the city's comprrehensive plan. 

"I am concerned about the impact that the Wal-Mart (store) will have on the neighborhood for the future," he said in an interview with Roseville Patch.

Looking ahead, Strohmeier said one of Roseville's challenges will be to run city government more effectively. "I support efforts to redesign government to be more innovative and effective," he said.

Strohmeier said also wants to take a more proactive role in engaging the residents in Roseville. 

“If elected, I will hold monthly town halls to hear from citizens and will utilize technology and social media to continuously inform and connect with residents.

Besides serving on the Planning Commission, Strohmeier is also vice chairman of the Roseville Variance Board and serves on the Neighborhood and Community Engagement Task Force. He is seeking one of two four-year terms on the Council. A primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 14.

A resident of Roseville since 2009, Strohmeier has been a legislative staffer in the Minnesota House of Representatives for five years, including four years as committee administrator for the Local Government and Metropolitan Affairs Committee and the Public Safety Committee. 

Also, Strohmeier recently completed his master’s degree from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, specializing in public management and leadership. He earned his bachelor of arts in political science and history from the University of Minnesota.
