Roseville Blogger: Will My Neighbors Yard Affect The Selling of My Property?

My neighbor's house has lots of junk in the yard and just doesn't look good. Will that affect the selling of my property?

Yes, unforunately it will.

I have sellers who have had this exact problem. Hopefully you have a good rleationship with your neighbor and the two of you can work together to get their house looking the best it can.

I recommend that you evaluate their home from the buyers perspective and decide what truly needs to be done. Is it that old woodpile that's been there for years? Or maybe its additional cars in the drive?

Then you should tactfully ask your neighbor if you can do anything to help them make the changes. You can also offer to do if for them or if you could hire and pay for someone else to do the work. Explain that the value that your home sells for will affect their future value when they go to sell their home.

Work together to solve the problem. As a nice gesture, send a thank you note with a gift card to let them know you apprecaite their help in getting your home sold.

And never forget, you live in the United States of America. While personal freedoms have eroded over the years, there are still some that remain. This country does have private property rights. I can't tell you the number of people I have run into over the past decade who are completely oblivious to this fact.
