Funeral Set Thursday for Adora Miller, Long-Time Nurse and Wife of 59 Years

Roseville woman and her husband were the second couple to get married at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Roseville.

Adora Jean Miller was known to her family and friends  for her "giving heart."

Adora's loving spirit was two-fold: She was married to husband Gordon R. Miller for 59 years. And she spent her lifetime in professional nursing, according to an obituary from Mueller-Bies Funeral Home-Roseville. 

Those are the tributes that people are paying to Adora Miller (nee DeLano), 81, who died this past Thursday. Her funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday ( Jan. 10) at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 2300 N. Hamline Ave., Roseville. Visitation is hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Burial will be at Elmhurst Cemetery.

Adora is survived by husband Gordon; son, Kenton (Rosalyn) and daughter, Cynthia (Reid Johnson); three grandchildren, Brianna (Eric Fischer), Aaron Johnson (Mary Elizabeth), and Christian Johnson; great-granddaughter, Maribelle Fischer.

According to her obituary:

"Born on Christmas Eve 1931 to Harold and Gertrude DeLano, Adora graduated from South St. Paul High School. She entered into the nursing program at Hamline University, graduating in 1954 with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. 

Adora married Gordon R. Miller on Aug. 29, 1953 at St. Christopher’s Church in Roseville. They were the second couple to be married at St. Christopher’s where they have been members all of their married life except for when Gordon attended chiropractic school in St. Louis, Mo. 

Adora is survived by husband Gordon; son, Kenton (Rosalyn) and daughter, Cynthia (Reid Johnson); three grandchildren, Brianna (Eric Fischer), Aaron Johnson (Mary Elizabeth), and Christian Johnson; great-granddaughter, Maribelle Fischer. 

During her career, Adora cared for many people in her nursing jobs. She worked in intensive care, in-service education and industrial nursing at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft while living in St. Louis. She was the director of nurses at several long-term care facilities in the Twin Cities and also worked at her husband’s Cherokee chiropractic office. 

Adora retired from nursing in December,1996 while at the Wilder Foundation as a home health care nurse in their services to the elderly.
