"Raku is a Japanese pottery firing technique that has been adapted for western culture," according to the city website. "Glazed pots are removed from the kiln while still hot, placed in a bed of sawdust and covered in airtight containers. When cooled, pots are bathed in cold water and scrubbed. The results are dramatic, with metallic flashes of color on the surfaces of the pots."

The city added, "Members of the public can purchase small pots for a nominal price. Glazes are supplied. Firing generally takes less than an hour and participants can take the pots home the same day.
