voted earlier this year in a Patch contest as Best Coffee Shop in Roseville, will soon have something more than its coffee, sandwiches and pastries for sale: The two-year-old business at 2723 Lexington Ave. is on the block.
Owner Sue Solem told Roseville Patch Wednesday that Cafe Zia will be open only weekdays (not weekends anymore) after the end of August and that the business is up for sale. She said is looking for a new owner and the asking price for the cafe is about $50,000.
However, Cafe Zia plans to continue its food truck, which currently operates near a couple of parks in downtown St. Paul and serves at varioius special events around the cities.
Solem, 52, said she is planning to retire and, for the immediate future, take some time for traveling. "I haven't had the opportunity to travel," she said.
Asked how the cafe is doing, Solem said, "Our business is OK. We have our regulars and then new people who have discovered us. And people seem to really like our coffee."
While Solem said she is looking forward traveling, she is going to miss her customers, who have included a group of retired teachers and a men's cigar club. "Everyone who walks in here winds up being like family," she said of her customers. "That is the thing I am going to miss the most."
