Rosedale Center Sees Black Friday Surge

With many tenants opening at midnight for Black Friday, the earliest start in their history; Rosedale Center reports it had an 11 percent increase in foot traffic for the traditional start of the retail holiday season compared with a year ago.

Altogether, 55 Rosedale retailers opened their doors at midnight for Black Friday, a move that resulted in long lines for some merchants such as Victoria's Secret.
Although a Rosedale spokeswoman didn't have specific sales numbers, the odds were good that the increased foot traffic meant greater sales compared with last year.

Rosedale's experience followed the nation as a whole. According to the National Retail Federation survey, 89 million shoppers braved the crowds on Black Friday, up from 86 million last year. 

Another positive statistic: A record 247 million shoppers visited stores and websites over Black Friday weekend, up from 226 million last year, the retail group said. Meanwhile, the average holiday shopper spent $423 this past weekend, up from $398 last year, the NRF said in a press statement.

One of Roseville's newest stores to bask in the Black Friday sales was the Best Buy Mobile store at HarMar Mall in Roseville. The new techie shop officially debuted on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving.

Best Buy representative Shandra Tollefson said the new Roseville store had a smooth grand opening and successful Black Friday weekend. "The store opened along with the rest of the mall stores at midnight on Black Friday," she said. "There was a line of about 15 to 20 people outside the store waiting to take advantage of hot offers at the midnight opening."

Tollefson added, "Throughout the weekend there was a lot of steady customer traffic – so far the team hasn’t seen a slow day since the opening last Wednesday."
