John J. Dunne Jr, 91, Succumbs to Cancer

Through the years, Dunne Jr. had been active in various church and community leadership positions.

John J. Dunne Jr., a longtime Roseville resident and civic leader, has died at the age of 91. 

Dunne Jr. passed away a week ago after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, according to his obituary. Funeral services were held  this past Friday at Maternity of Mary Catholic Church, 1414 N. Dale St, St. Paul. 

Born in St. Paul, Dunne had been an participant in numerous civic and charitable endeavors. He had been a volunteer singer in the North Suburban Chorus for more than 20 years and a member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 30 years .

He also was elected Prince and King of  St. Paul Winter Carnival Senior Royalty in 1987 and 1991 and served in many church and community leadership positions, according to his obituary.  

Dunne Jr. was preceded in death by parents, John Sr. and Eleanor and brother Robert.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Betty Jane (Mitch); daughter Mary (John) Neeser; son, Tom; grandson, Benjamin (Shannon) Neeser; granddaughter,  Amy; special nephew and nieces, Dr. John (Kay) Dunne, Lois (Gary) Graham, and Kathy (Mike) Newes.

Memorials are preferred to Our Lady Of Peace Home, where Dunne Jr. had been a resident in the latter days of his life. Funeral arrangements were handled by Mueller-Bies Funeral Home-Roseville.
