Minneapolis Man Pleads Guilty to Bank Robbery in Roseville

A 51-year-old Minneapolis man has admitted to robbing four banks, including one in Roseville, last summer, according to a news release issued today by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Minneapolis.

Philip Leo Nietz entered his guilty plea last Friday to one count of bank robbery before U.S. District Judge Patrick J. Schiltz.

Nietz admitted robbing a U.S. Bank in Roseville last Aug. 14 by handing a note to teller demanding money and robbing the bank of $1,047, according to the Attorney's Office.

Nietz,  also pleaded guilty to employing a similar tactic to robbing the TCF Bank on West Lake Street in Minneapolis.

"In his plea agreement, Nietz admitted that on Aug. 22 he walked into the West Lake Street branch of TCF Bank and gave a teller a note demanding money. He took approximately $3,794, placed it in a black bag, and left the premises on foot," according to the press release. 

Nietz also admitted robbing the Roseville bank and two others in a similar manner, the Attorney's Office said. Those included a Wells Fargo in St. Paul on Aug. 28 ($7,389); and a U.S. Bank in St. Paul on Sept. 13, ($1,045).
For his crime, Nietz faces a potential maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. His sentencing has yet to be scheduled.
