Roseville Police suggest doing the following things to minimize the chances of being the victim of a burglary or theft:

  • "Report any and all suspicious activity, suspicious noises, or suspicious people. Call 911.
  • Install and use a security system. Use the security system while at home or working in the yard.
  • Lock all doors and windows to house, garage, sheds, and vehicles. Service doors and side entrances are preferred by burglars due to the lack of lighting and increase of cover by fences, shrubs, etc. Add shatter resistant film to windows on, or next to doors. Inquire about these items at your local hardware store.
  • Keep valuable items out of sight. Many people advertise what they have by leaving blinds open, facing TV’s toward windows, leaving laptops and purses visible, etc. Record the make, model and serial number of valuables, as well as take photos.
  • Increase visibility on your property. Burglars do not wish to be seen or heard while committing a crime. Install security lighting and trim shrubs and trees near windows and doors to allow more natural surveillance by neighbors, joggers, police, etc.
  • Participate in Neighborhood Watch. Knowing your neighbors is a powerful thing. Keeping your neighborhood or apartment complex safe is a team effort.
