She Had a Nose for Tracking Down This Roseville Thief

The woman tracked down the man who stole her wallet.

A little bit of deductive reasoning helped a woman save her wallet from a Roseville thief.

About 10 a.m. Thursday, when a woman returned to her parked car on the 1200 block of Willow Lane, she discovered her wallet missing and a lingering smell of tobacco in the car.

Nearby, the woman found her thief smoking and she approached, asking the man to take the cash but leave the wallet.

The thief—a black male with an Afro, about 20 years old, wearing a black sweatshirt, pants and hat—obliged, giving the woman back her wallet but leaving with $80 in cash.

Corey Yunke, the Roseville Police Department’s crime analyst, said the department searched unsuccessfully for the thief.

“It’s rare to actually see anybody doing it,” he said. “We really don’t encourage [approaching suspects].”

Yunke said Roseville police have recently seen a “nice little swing” of incidents where auto theft and burglary suspects have been apprehended. He said the bump could possibly be due to people being more likely to report suspicious activity.
