Isaacson Lauds Dayton For Scrapping Sales Tax Expansion Plan on Business

The first-term DFLer says Legislature is focused on balancing state budget.

District 42B Rep. Jason Isaacson has lauded Gov. Mark Dayton for scrapping his proposal to expand the state sales tax on many businesses.

The fresheman DFLer, whose district includes that area of Roseville north of County Road C and east of Snelling Avenue, called Dayton's decision "great news for businesses in our district and around the state.".

In an e-mail Tuesday to constituents, Isaacson, of Shoreview, offered these comments :

"Last Friday Governor Mark Dayton decided to scrap the business-to-business sales tax component of his budget proposal. This is great news for businesses in our district and around our state.

Many business owners shared concerns with me about the proposal’s impact on their competitiveness. By listening to people who did not agree with his initial proposal, Governor Dayton showed real leadership and provided the kind of receptive, responsive government that Minnesotans deserve."

Today (Wednesday), Dayton plans to release a revised budget proposal based on the updated economic forecast released late last month, Isaacson said.

He continued: "The Legislature will soon begin crafting our own proposal. The DFL majority’s top priority this session is balancing our budget in a way that is honest, fair, and doesn’t rely on gimmicks or one-time fixes.

We’ve also heard a strong consensus from Minnesotans on the need to invest in priorities like education and provide homeowners and businesses with much-needed property tax relief.

In addition to the budget, the Legislature has been busy discussing other bills that make a real difference in the lives of Minnesotans.

For example, the House and Senate recently passed legislation that establishes a health insurance exchange that fits Minnesota’s unique needs instead of relying on a federal “one-size-fits-all” model.

I also introduced legislation that makes significant investments to end homelessness and increase access to affordable housing."
