Roseville Council Adopts Preliminary $45.5 Million Budget

The preliminary 2013 budget comes with a tax levy 15.7 percent higher than in 2012. And a property tax increase would follow.

The Roseville Council adopted a $45.5 million preliminary 2013 budget at its Monday meeting that includes a $17.3 million tax levy.

The preliminary budget acts as a cap on how high the final budget can go, but the City Council will hold a budget work session in October or November and numbers can change before the final budget is adopted in December.

The preliminary tax levy is a 15.7 percent increase compared with 2012. Much of the increase comes from bonds related to the new fire station and the park renewal program.

“We are obligated by law to pay those bonds,” Mayor Dan Roe said.

If the budget passes as proposed, it would mean an $8.88 per month increase in property taxes for a median-valued home and a $6.81 per month increase in water and sewer rates.

Future key dates in budget process:

  • Dec. 3: Annual truth-in-taxation hearing
  • Dec. 10: Adopt final tax levy and budget
