Roseville Sees Another Strong Year of Business Development

Mix of projects included Sienna Green II apartments, new building for Affinity Credit Union and re-opening of Cost Plus World Market.

Even in the midst of a slow economy, the city of Roseville has enjoyed a second consecutive year of strong business development.

That's the word from City Community Development Director Pat Trudgeon with only a few days left of 2012.

"We've had a good mix of things happening," Trudgeon said Friday.

The list of new projects in 2012 have ranged from the re-opening of the Cost Plus World Market at Rosedale Marketplace to the debut of the 80-unit Cherrywood Pointe assisted senior living complex and the relocation of FICO from Minneapolis to Roseville, bringing along 370 jobs, he said.

For the first 11 months of 2012, the city has had $59 million of development activity including new construction and remodeling, Trudgeon said. That's down from $65 million for the same period in 2011, but still better development activity then in 2009 and 2010, he said.

One of the most encouraging things in 2012: The city's largest vacant retail spaces are now filled with new tenants, Trudgeon said. That includes Cost Plus World Market reopening at its old location to Planet Fitness taking 29,000 square feet at the vacant Circuit City space.

Among Roseville's new industrial development is Fed Ex's 130,000 square-foot package sorting facility at 2285 Walnut St.

Other new retail includes Gordmans, Buffalo Wild Wings, Goodwill store at 2500 Cleveland Ave. and Mattress Firm and Sleep Number stores at the former Ultimate Electronics location.

Meanwhile, Trudgeon said he expects 2013 will be another strong year for new development. One of the biggest projects set to break ground next year (probably in the spring) is a 160,000 square-foot Wal-Mart store off of Cleveland Avenue in the Twin Lakes neighborhood.
