New fire station plans, well-attended Rosefest highlighted the many happenings in Roseville for 2011

Government news abounded in the city of Roseville for 2011.

The Roseville City Council took steps to have a new fire station built, Rosefest had a large tournout and the city leaders sought to help the military. These are some of the highlights of the many government-related events in Roseville.

New Fire Station

Roseville will soon have one fire station instead of three as the Roseville City Council has undertaken a project to build a new fire station. The council voted for selling $8 million in bonds to pay for the new station, which will replace the three longtime stations. Fire station No. 1 had been torn down in early December. The council awarded a bid to CNH Architects to begin designing the new fire station.

Roseville residents and visitors found relief from the Minnesota State Government Shutdown admist the heat at Rosefest in July. More than 600 people came out for the Taste of Rosefest on July 2. Two hundred people came out for the big screen production. The Rosefest Parade had plenty of fanfare again too.

Yellow Ribbon Support

Roseville citizens and community leaders banded together with surrounding communities this year to support the military. This group planned to include Roseville in the n program, which connects military personnel and their families with community resources.

Park Project

The Rosevilel City Council decided in October to go ahead with a $19 million project to improve the city's parks. indicated interest in the improvements prior to the council's decision. The city will sell bonds to for the project.

Citizens Group Challenges Council

Responsible Governance for Roseville, a citizen's group, has been working to stop the city from selling bonds for the fire station and park projects. A Ramsey County judge denied a temporary restraining order on the group in November. In addition, the group recently went through the Minnesota Court of Appeals and will have their case heard on Feb. 8, 2012.

State Government Shutdown

The Minnesota State Government Shutdown in late June and early July affected everyone in different ways. Some Roseville residents lost jobs temporarily. had to be put on hold. Residents could not take a trip to one of Minnesota's beloved state parks or historic sites.
