Roseville High Speech Team Members Gain National Honor

Four students gain final berths at the Nationa Speech and Debate Tournament.

The Roseville Area High School (RAHS) speech team emerged this month with national honors.
Four RAHS speech team members -Jordan Riebe, Emma Erier, Logan Daniels and Syrah Sherwood- earned final berths at the National Speech and Debate Tournament held June 16-21 in Birmingham, Ala, according to Roseville District 623 officials. The four students combined performances gained them a School of Excellence Award, an honor going to the nation’s top 20 speech schools, according to the District.

Riebe and Erler, duo interpretation, took third place; Daniels was fourth place in  oratory and  Sherwood took fourth place in storytelling. She also advanced to the top 30 in drama, school officials said.

Teammate Sophia Miliotis, competing in the humorous interpretation category, advanced to the top 30 as well.

“We brought four entries (five students) to the national tournament, and four of those students advanced to a national final round,” team advisor Jodi Kyllonen said in a staff email.  “It was another milestone of success for us,” she said, noting that the team had never had so many final-round performers before.
