Roseville Math Scores are Down; Reading Scores Improve Slightly

Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment scores in Roseville reflect a statewide trend and tougher math test.

Like most elementary and middle schools across the state, Roseville’s public schools saw a dramatic drop in math scores in the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment tests, scores that educators say reflect a much tougher test students took for the first time.

A total of 56 percent of Roseville students were proficient in math, down from 67 percent last year. That mirrors state averages: 57 percent of Minnesota students were proficient in math, down from 66 percent last year. The Minnesota Department of Education released state-wide test results this week.

District 623 officials have yet to comment on the latest state-wide math and reading results for Roseville students.

Math scores were stable for Roseville’s 11th graders, who did not have to take the new test. A total of 53.1 percent were proficient in math, down slightly from last year’s 54.7 percent, but significantly higher than the state average of 48.6 percent.

The news is better for reading scores. Seventy-five percent of Roseville’s students are proficient in reading, up slightly from the 74.5 percent last year.  Statewide, 75 percent of students were proficient in reading, up from 72 percent last year.
