Roseville's Patty Grossen a Teacher of the Year Candidate

The Roseville School District 623 employee is a teacher at Little Canada Elementary School.


Patty Grossen, of Roseville School District 623, is among 135 candidates vying for 2013 Minnesota Teacher of the Year, according to Education Minnesota.

Grossen is a first-grade teacher at District 623's Little Canada Elementary School.

The number of candidates is the highest for the Teacher of the Year program since 2005, according to a press statement from Education Minnesota, the state's largest teacher organization and sponsor of the competition.

The group said the Minnesota Teacher of the Year program is in its 49 year and includes nominees from pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers in public or private schools.

In a press statement, Education Minnesota added: "The 2013 Minnesota Teacher of the Year will be announced Sunday, May 5, at the Marriott Minneapolis Northwest in Brooklyn Park. During the coming weeks, a 25-member panel of community leaders will name a group of semifinalists."

Supporters of the Teacher award program include Education Minnesota ESI, The Harvard Club of Minnesota Foundation, McDonald’s Restaurants of Minnesota, Marriott Minneapolis Northwest, Pearson Education, The SMARTer Kids Foundation, TruStone Financial and United Educators Credit Union.
