Roseville’s Stecklein Makes Women’s Ice Hockey Team

The former Raiders star is the youngest player on the team.

Roseville’s Lee Stecklein has been selected as the youngest player on the 2014 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team.

The defenseman was on the Olympic roster announced Wednesday during the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium.

Stecklein is 19 years old, nine months and 16 days—just 10 days younger than the next-youngest member of the team, Alex Carpenter of North Reading, MA.

Stecklein is a 2012 grad of Roseville Area High School. During her time there, the Raiders won four Suburban East Conference championships, second in the state in 2012 and a state championship title in 2010.  

She earned all-state honors in 2011 and 2012 and was honorable mention all-state in 2010.

She now plays for the University of Minnesota, which won the NCAA Division I national championship in her freshman season. She was also part of the U.S. Women’s National Team that won gold at the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship and bronze at the 2013 Four Nations Cup.

The 2014 Olympic Winter Games take place Feb. 7 through Feb. 23 in Sochi, Russia.
