Imagine living in a place with no furniture.  You sleep and eat on the floor. Your clothes and other belongings are in piles and boxes around you.

A team of volunteers from Comcast Corp. plans to work Saturday morning, April 21, at Bridging Inc. in Roseville to help turn around this situation that is a reality for many people in the local community.

Team leader and Comcast employee John Olin will lead a large group in a “dresser build.”  That’s what nonprofit Bridging calls extremely valuable work.

“To say that our need for dressers is dire is an understatement,” said Bridging Executive Director Sara Sternberger. “We serve 75 families a week between our two locations. Our goal is one dresser per bedroom, and currently, we have just 25 dressers to offer our families.  We are so grateful that Comcast has chosen to sponsor a dresser build.”

Bridging  is a Twin Cities-based nonprofit that distributes gently used furniture and household good items to individuals and households moving out of homlessness and poverty and into apartments or other living quarters. Besides Roseville, Bridging has offices and a distribution site in Bloomington.

Last fall, Bridging celebrated the fifth anniversary of its Roseville location.

Olin said Comcast will purchase ten kits of five-drawer dressers.  “We will set up an assembly line and get to work on Saturday, April 21. This is the fourth year I have led a Comcast volunteer team here. I know what a difference Bridging makes in the lives of the families they serve.”

Olin and 33 other site coordinators will lead more than 1,300 Comcast employees, their families and friends for a morning of volunteering for 24 nonprofits in the Twin Cities area.  It is the 11 annual event for Comcast to reach out and work for nonprofits.

The Roseville project is one of many volunteer efforts scheduled for Comcast Cares Day, the company's national day of service. The Comcast outreach is one of the nation's largest single-day corporate volunteer efforts with more than 62,000 Comcast company employees volunteering at 620 nonprofit sites to improve the communities they serve.

Comcast Corp. (www.comcast.com) is one of the nation’s leading providers of entertainment, information and communications products and services.
