Roseville Boy Scout Soars With the Eagles

Roseville High School senior Kevin Brooks is scheduled today (Sunday) to receive Boy Scouting's highest honor, the Eagle Scout award. 

A ceremony honoring him is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Roseville Baptist Church, 211 West County Road B-2.

Nationally, only an estimated four to five percent of all Boys Scouts earn the Eagle award. 

Brooks, 17,  said that after he graduated from Cub Scouts into the Boy Scout program about five years ago, he decided to make getting the Eagle award his ultimate goal.

For his Eagle project, Brooks put in a fire pit, patio and seating benches
at Central Park - Victoria, just north of the tennis courts and shelter.

"I wanted a lasting project, one that I come back and see," he said. "I looked at the park and what needed improvement. I saw the fire pit was run down."

Brooks said it took him a couple weeks to plan the fire pit project and about four days to put it into place.

"We have received many positive comments from people who have seen or used
the fire pit and who knew that it was Kevin's project,'' said Nancy Brooks, Kevin's mother.

Brooks is a Boy Scout with Troop 31 in Roseville; the American Legion Post
542 is the troop sponsor.  Besides being active in the Boy Scouts, Brooks was co-captain of the boys cross country team at Roseville High School this fall. He is also on the school's track team and is a member of the National Honor Society.
