Roseville's Wild Rice Festival Coming

Annual fundraiser for Roseville's Harriet Alexander Nature Center is set Sept. 15.

The Friends of Roseville’s Harriet Alexander Nature Center (FORHANC) will hold its 9th Annual Wild Rice Festival on Saturday, Sept. 15.

The event begins with a fundraising pancake breakfast from 8 until 11 a.m., featuring delicious wild rice pancakes, wild rice sausage links, butter and real maple syrup (adults, $7, kids 6 and under, $5).

After breakfast, a number of food trucks will be on site, featuring Roseville’s own Messy Giuseppe, and just confirmed, the Pow Wow Grounds in Minneapolis will be here selling fry bread, Indian tacos, two kinds of wild rice soup, and more. Lots of tasty choices to make so plan to come hungry!

The various demonstrations and fun activities begin at 9 a.m. and continue until the event closes at 4 p.m. The free entertainment will include dancing and drumming by the Little Thunderbird Singers, while the folks from the Gibbs Museum of Pioneer and Dakotah Life will set up their big teepee for all sorts of fun activities along with a number of presentations in our amphitheater.

The Home Depot Kids Workshop also will be on site, providing kids a fun, free word-working project they can take home.

The Wild Rice Festival is presented by volunteer members of FORHANC. Proceeds support the nature center, part of the Roseville Parks and Recreation Department, and its mission of environmental education and outdoor recreation.
