Family Urges You to Learn about Heart Condition that Killed Roseville Boy

Commotio cordis is most commonly associated with such sports as baseball, hockey and lacrosse, KSTP-TV reported. Carter Geyen and a friend were playing with a slingshot when he died.

A rare cardiac condition was behind the sudden death of a 12-year-old Roseville boy in 2010, and now his family is trying to raise awareness of commotio cordis, according to KSTP-TV

"Carter Geyen was with a friend at a park near his home Aug. 1, 2010. ... A rock they shot from the slingshot came back down and hit Carter right in the heart and sent him into cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the hospital but died. ...

"[Commotio cordis] is most commonly heard about in sports like baseball, hockey and lacrosse. US Lacrosse has taken the initiative to get Automatic External Defibrillators, or AEDs, to teams at a reduced cost."
