Nationwide, gas prices were predicted to be lower this summer compared to the last three years, but that won't translate into savings at the pump this Memorial Day weekend, experts said. "Motorists this year are facing rising gas prices heading into the Memorial Day holiday," said Michael Green, a AAA spokesman, adding that Memorial Day 2013 would probably be the most expensive since 2011. In past years, prices have declined heading into early summer as oil refineries produced more gasoline to meet expected summer driving demand. This year, though, Midwest refineries haven'…

Here at Patch, we like to be thrifty, so we talked to two barbecue experts and uncovered some really good ideas to help you save money on your next outdoor party. 1. Start with a marinade. Just marinate it or brine for one or two days and then cook long and slow on the barbecue grill to break down tissues but maintain moisture. “You need to include an acid in the marinade, perhaps juice, vinegar or soy sauce, but avoid cola which is so acidic it can turn meat into a soggy mess.” …

Roseville Council approves the penalty after the restaurant failed an under-age liquor sales check.
The city of Roseville has levied a $1,000 fine and one-day suspension against the Szechuan restaurant, 2193 Snelling Ave. N., for recently failing an under-aged liquor sales check. The Roseville City Council on Monday night OKed the police department levying that penalty after Lt. Lorne Rosand reported that a waiter at the restaurant on April 11 served an undercover, under-aged buyer a Miller Geniune draft beer without checking their ID. Appearing before the Council, Szechuan owner Jessie Wong expressed regrets about the incident. "I'm sorry it happened and it won't happen again," she said. In a city staff report, Rosand wrote: "On March 29th, 2013, all businesses with a liquor license in the city of Roseville were mailed a letter from …

This year’s tax bill brings local government aid (LGA) back to the community.
Changes to the state formula for local government aid (LGA) money along with increases to the program's funds mean that Roseville will receive $224,929 in 2014 after receiving nothing in 2013, according to the Minnesota Department of Revenue. The omnibus tax bill, which passed the Minnesota Senate 36-30 just before the legislature's Monday night deadline, will add an additional $80 million into the LGA program in hopes that cities will reduce property taxes. Also in the bill is a provision that bans most cities from hiking levies by more than 3 percent this fall. How do you think Roseville should use the aid money? Should it go toward road improvement projects? How about police department upgrades? Or would you like to see the money help …
