Accolades come to Roseville High School girls basketball coaches.
Roseville School District 623 announced that two coaches at Roseville Area High School (RAHS) have been honored. Roseville Area High School girls basketball coach Scott Lauinger is Class 4A State Assistant Coach of the Year and Class 4A, Section 5 Coach of the Year. Meanwhile, RAHS head coach Jeff Crosby is 4A, Section 5 Head Coach of the Year. The duo's honors come in the wake of the Raiders girls' basketball team having a stellar season. Their varsity team posted a regular season 24-2 total record and 17-1 in the Suburban East Conference. The team was 2012-2013 Suburban East Conference champs. Roseville District 623 announced today (Thursday) that Roseville Area High School (RAHS) senior Jacqlyn Poss, a three-sport athlete, has been named the school's 2013 Athena Award winner. The Athena Awards recognize outstanding female senior athletes from high schools in St. Paul and surrounding suburban area. Poss, the daughter of Marilynn and Steven Poss, Shoreview; will be one of 40 area seniors honored at the annual Saint Paul Area Athena Awards ceremony on April 17 at the Prom Center in Oakdale. In a news release, the District 623 public relations office said Poss is a standout athlete in basketball, tennis, and track and field, serving as captain for all three teams. One more win would push Bucknell University into the NCAA Basketball Tourney
For Mike Muscala, a Roseville Area High School alumnus and star basketball player, this could be the year of making it to the Big Dance and being a part of March Madness for him and his Bucknell University teammates. The Roseville Review reports that one more win for the Bucknell team and it will qualify to get into the main 64-team draw for the NCAA National Basketball Tournament. (Bucknell University is located in Lewisburg, Pennslyvania.) Muscala is a senior this year for Bucknell. Roseville now moves on to the Class 4AAAA section semi-finals Saturday night (March 9) to square off against Stillwater High School at East Ridge High School. Mack Johnson, of Roseville, is the only Minnesotan in the American Family Insurance National High School Slam Dunk and 3-Point Championships. First-round voting deadline is noon today for him on Facebook.
Mack Johnson is Minnesota's only contestant vying in a national high school basketball competition. And Patch readers can help Johnson go all the way in the contest that is based on Facebook voting. Johnson, a senior at Roseville Area High School, is one of 32 high school boys from across the country in the running for the 2013 American Family Insurance National High School Slam Dunk and 3-Point Championships. Mike Muscala, a 6-foot-11, 235-pound Bucknell University seniorj and former Roseville High School standout, has helped power his college basketball team to an 8-1 start this season, according to the Roseville Review. "Muscala earned Patriot League Player of the Week honors for the second time this season and the sixth time overall earlier this month thanks to a pair of monster games,'' the Review reported. "Muscala is averaging 18.8 points and 11.4 rebounds per game."
