Two-Thirds of Twin Cities GOP Leaders Believe Minnesota in Play for Romney

In our inaugural “Red Twin Cities” survey, influential Republicans paint an early picture for November's general election.

More than two-thirds of influential Republicans from around the Twin Cities Patch areas believe Mitt Romney can pull off an upset win in Minnesota in 2012. First, the survey shows, the presumed nominee has to reach out to Ron Paul Republicans. Ninety-six conservatives from Twin Cities Patch areas—from St. Michael to Woodbury, Fridley to Northfield—were surveyed last week in Patch’s inaugural Twin Cities Red poll, which focused on November’s biggest race. Forty responses were collected. Roseville Professor Sees Romney The Republican Nominee Despite Surging Santorum

Kent Kaiser sees electability as key issue.

Despite Rick Santorum's strong victory Tuesday night in Minnesota's Republican precinct caucses, a Roseville communication professor is predicting that Mitt Romney will still emerge as the GOP's national presidential nominee.  "I think Romney will be the nominee, but it won't be smooth sailing," Kent Kaiser, an assistant professor of communication at Northwestern College in Roseville, told Roseville Patch.  Kaiser, a fourth-generation Republican, explained, "I think people are viewing him as the most electable" candidate to oppose President Barack Obama in the November general presidential election. Updated:Santorum Wins Roseville House District 54A Straw Poll, Maintains Commanding State Lead

Paul finishes second with Romney third and Gingrich a distant fourth.

Rick Santorum emerged the winner of the Republican presidential straw poll Tuesday night at Roseville state House District 54A, a result that followed Minnesota as a whole.  With nearly 400 participants turning out for the the 54A precinct caucuses, Santorum garnered 159 votes. Ron Paul placed second with 111 votes followed by Mitt Romney, 75 votes, and Newt Gingrich a distant fourth with  35 votes.  House District 54A is comprised mostly of Roseville (eight precincts) with the territory also including two precincts from St. Anthony Village and one from Lauderdale.  The district's GOP caucuses were held at Roseville Area Middle School. Roseville Poll: What Republican Candidate Do You Favor For The Presidential Nomination?

Polls indicate the race in Minnesota is tightening.

As Minnesota nears Precinct Caucus Night today, some polls are indicating that the race between Republican Presidential candidates Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul and Rick Santorum is tightening up.  According to the most recent PPP poll: "Minnesota looks like a toss up with any of the four candidates having some shot at winning. Santorum holds a small edge there with 29 percent to 27 percent for Romney, 22 percent for Gingrich, and 19 percent for Paul." In Roseville, the chairman of the Republican Party in House District 54A said he expects there could between 200 and 300 people attending his party's caucuses at Rosevlle Area Middle School.
