ReplyIs, in fact, the school district making purchases from a business owned or operated by the coach? That might be a bit questionable, ethic-wise.

ReplyIt is not all as one sided as Ms Greiling would like us to believe. The Governor, seemingly ignoring the state of the Capitol building, roads and bridges,, appears focused on one theme only - spending millions on a football stadium as owners continue to make millions. Can you imagine the state building new offices for 3M, General Mills or the like? ....and they actual contribute real jobs. Both sides need to face reality or we will end up as broke as California.

ReplyLet Oakdale have all of the proposed big box stores. Best Buy has figured out that it may not be the best strategy. Personally, I think the old trucking firms made more sense than a Walmart on this site..

ReplyHow about delaying it until 3012? Roseville is not in need of any big box stores that pay minimal wages. The high percentage of retail currently available in the city and the numerous outlets within a short distance are more than adequate. How about attracting some tech businesses, manufacturing or educational facilities? Please don't waste that wonderful parcel on another Walmart!

On the article Twin Cities North Suburban Chamber Questions Vikings Stadium Plan

ReplyBuildng a new stadium, if it is decided it has to be, should be just fine in Minneapolis. It is equidistant from Roseville, and the local hotels and establishments would probably do about the same with either location. No additional light rail would need to be added if the current location is used. Should it go to Arden Hills there would be an almost immediate outcry for the addition of light rail to the sight, adding of course, to the cost of infrastructure.
As for electronic pull tabs - If this type of funding is allowed, the dollars that now go to charities, service clubs and local youth sports groups will be shifted to pay for the stadium. That leaves the kids and charities to find some other way to fund their activities.
If it is decided to provide for Mr Wilf and company, I definitely feel the Metrodome site is probably the best choice. Due to the poor economic condition of the country, there seems to be no huge outcry to immediately develop the arsenal land, other than by the Vikings owner. There are currently plenty of retail locations sitting empty waiting for tenants, lots of Walmart stores every couple miles, hotels that are in need of guests, and restaurants with empty seats. The dire need to add to that glut does not seem to present an immediate need.

On the article Roseville Commission Backs Preliminary Plat for Proposed Wal-Mart Store

ReplyIf Walmart is the only interested party here, I have to say that I have lost faith in our economic development staff. The Twin Cities is still a hub of technological and innovative businesses. It would seem prudent to seek out a few of these and see if they might like a centrally located site, with freeway access and public transportation available. Roseville is loaded with retail at the present time and there are plenty of big box stores within a short distance, making it unnecessary to add to the glut and waste a valuable and rare piece of development property on another one. In my view, the people of Roseville will be the losers in the long run if this happens.

Between the illegal payoffs, the lawsuit that recently required Walmart to pay millions in overtime that they previously avoided and their record of walking away from properties that did not live up to their expectations, I would be sad to see this store built in Roseville. I agree with Roger. If they feel it is a terrific location, the it should be a terrific location at a market price. Perhaps it is only terrific based on a gift from the city.
