Police Chief: Roseville Hit-and-Run Accident Victim "In Deep Pain"

Complaint: "Medical staff informed her (Torgerson's wife) that the flesh on his (Torgerson's) backside was ground down to the bone."

A 42-year-old U.S. Army recruiter, who was hit by a Jeep SUV earlier this week and dragged behind the car for nearly a mile, is facing tough days ahead as he tries to recover from his injuries.
That was Roseville Police Chief Rick Mathwig's assessment of the condition of staff Sgt. Travis Torgerson after the U.S. Army recruiter was badly injured Tuesday afternoon.
The incident began in the parking lot near the Kohl's department store when the vehicle, driven by 52-year-old Enrico Taylor, struck Torgerson. Torgerson got trapped underneath the car.  He didn't free himself until nearly a mile later, on Prior Avenue south of County Road B2. (See this Patch story for more details.)
On Thursday, Mathwig told reporters that Torgerson was "in deep pain" and probably will be for several months.
The Ramsey County Attorney's Office on Thursday charged Taylor with three counts of criminal vehicular operation.
The complaint also detailed the extent of Torgerson's injuries. The document says that Roseville police detective Jennifer Engh on Tuesday met Torgerson's wife, who gave a report on her husband injuries:

  • "He fractured his tibia and fibula resulting in two rods in his right leg. He had a plate in his right heel. He suffered a broken tailbone and several broken ribs. He had numerous broken transverse proceses on his spinal column and deep abrasions covering his back and buttocks.
  • He had dead skin tissue on his right calf which will require a skin graft and he will require several skin grafts on his buttocks and lower back.
  • Medical staff informed her (Torgerson's wife) that the flesh on his (Torgerson's) backside was ground down to the bone."
