The City Council met Saturday in an emergency session.

Roseville Mayor Dan Roe on Saturday declared a local emergency due to considerable damage from the late Friday evening storm.

In a news statement, the city said, "Numerous trees and branches were downed and localized flooding occurred. City crews have begun work to clean up the debris and to open city streets.  Xcel Energy is working to remove downed power lines and restore electricity. The City does not have an estimate when power will be restored.

The city's emergency comes as many Roseville residents remained without electric power into early Saturday evening. As of 7 p.m., Xcel Energy's outage map for the 55113 Roseville zip code showed about 14,700 customers were without electric service.

Roseville said  the City Council, in an emergency meeting today, authorized the municipality "to assist property owners with disposal of downed trees, brush and other tree debris that is not disposed of by the property owner or their tree contractor."

The city also noted:

  • "Property owners can move trees and brush to the curb and the City will pick up the debris beginning July 8.
  • All tree debris must be at the curb by July 8. The City will begin the final sweep through neighborhoods, picking up tree debris, at that time.
  • Debris and brush can also be taken to Ramsey County brush sites. Call 651.633.EASY (3279) or log on to http://co.ramsey.mn.us/ph/rt/yard_waste_collection_sites.htm for times and locations."

The city is also encouraging homeowners to contact their insurance carriers for coverage to remove trees and damage to personal property.
"The City will remove tree debris that is at the curb, but tree removal or contractor costs are the responsibility of the property owner. Tree removal services must be licensed to work in Roseville.
